News affiliate 9 News shared a letter from Columbine High School principal Scott Christy, which announced the school would continue to mark the somber anniversary by improving the community.

The rally and the activism since the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School feels like a watershed moment for Mauser.

SD308 officials said in a statement that, "students who choose to leave school while it's in session on Friday, April 20 will receive disciplinary consequences, the same as any other day".

Capitol Police are allowing a stretch of 9th Street between Grace and Bank Streets, as a drop off/pickup area for any students participating in the rally. "It's kind of ingrained in who we are as a generation".

In addition, after the walkout, students can participate in local chapters that have been developed by the National School Walkout; at this time, there are believed to be at least 150 registered chapters so far.

For example, the fear of school shootings is particularly pronounced for students of color.

Organizers include the groups National School Walkout DC, Students Demand Action DMV and Montgomery County Students for Gun Control.

For some teenagers, protesting at school isn't enough.

And in DeLand, green bracelets will be distributed to remind students of "kindness in all things", the school's message to parents stated.

Students will march, leaving the high school and go across the street to the park. One of her friends, she said, tried to commit suicide with an illegally obtained gun.

Brent Campbell, spokesman for WS/FCS, said the district will operate as if it is a normal school day, including with policies meant to prevent disruption to the school day and ensure a safe environment. As an unofficial consultant to schools hit by shootings because of his experience, he said he has always told them to consider what their community wants, rather than follow a template.

Other students will have a tougher time walking out. The students will need to hold their protest before the school day starts.

The policy did not seem to affect school during the March 14 walkout because no athletic events were scheduled that day.

The survey also found 86 percent of teens say preventing people with mental illnesses from purchasing guns would be very effective or somewhat effective. Brandon Gillespie of Rocklin High School in California, one of the organizers behind the walkout, said the only accommodation his district gave was not punishing the protesters.

Friday is the 19th anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting and some students are planning to walk out in protest of gun violence.

"We want to make sure that we're supportive, but we also want to make sure we have some processes and procedures in place", said Hopson.

This is the second major school walkout to occur in two months.

"For the rest of the day", the sample agenda reads, "students won't return to class, but will make calls to their Senators' offices and flood social media with calls for reform".

In Connecticut, Murdock said that before all Parkland's dead were accounted for, she put out her petition for people to join her walkout. Employees who participate in any political activity do so on their own time and, if applicable, must take a personal day and arrange for a substitute.
