Griffin figures to be the primary backup to Ravens starter Joe Flacco, as Ryan Mallett is the only other quarterback listed on Baltimore's depth chart.

The team says the terms were finalized late Tuesday night, and Newsome expects Griffin, also known as "RG3", to sign the contract next week.

Girffin hasn't played since the 20016 season. The following season coming back from injury Griffin's playmaking abilities fell tremendously. RG3 last played for the Cleveland Browns in 2016. "He's a very talented quarterback", he said.

Despite being out of the game for over a year, the Ravens must have liked what they saw after claiming RGIII "had a real good workout". And we were able to come to an agreement late yesterday.

Griffin, 28, sat out the entire 2017 season after being cut by the Cleveland Browns last March.

Newsome said Wednesday that Griffin's signing wouldn't stop the Ravens from potentially selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft if Baltimore feels one is the best available player.

"I felt like (Griffin) really wanted to be here".

He was the No. 2 pick in the 2012 draft and counted on to be the franchise quarterback for the Washington Redskins.

Seven games into 2014 Cousins took over the job full-time and one year later Griffin was released.

Over the course of his four seasons in the NFL, Griffin has appeared in 42 games, 40 of which he started. "He really wanted to be a Raven". He started 15 games as a rookie, threw for 3,200 yards and tossed 20 touchdowns to five interceptions.
