Mario placed on Google Maps, but why?

But did you know today is actually National Mario Day?

So to celebrate (ie, promote), Nintendo have hooked up with Google to bring a little levity to disoriented drivers, with a Mario Kart icon for their Maps app.

"Then tap on the yellow "?" icon on the bottom right and select "Let's-a go!" when prompted.


For a week starting today, one can replace the regular blue navigation arrow with an image of Mario riding a go kart.

To activate Mario Time, enter a destination and request directions in Google Maps.

Google announced that the latest update in the Google Maps app on both iOS and Android.


Well, this isn't the first time Google has surprised us by customizing the appearance of Google Maps. The event was originally teased a few days ago with a peek at some of Mario's famous items, but has now been officially revealed as the Super Mario Crossover Event.

March 10 is Mario Day, because MAR10. You can also pick up some stylish new duds inspired by Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Princess Peach.

If you purchase the full game, you'll be able to enjoy all World Tour and Toad Rally courses, play as additional playable characters, take on Remix 10 whenever you like, and get more chances to earn Rally Tickets.


It appears that the Mario Day Easter egg has already begun to roll out to everyone, so expect to see it on your app soon.
