Less than 24 hours after being officially released by the Seattle Seahawks, Pro Bowl cornerback Richard Sherman is already drawing a ton of interest.

Seattle Seahawks' Richard Sherman (25) eats turkey during a TV interview on the field after the San Francisco 49ers' lost 19-3 in their National Football League game against Seattle Seahawks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014. On Friday, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan had dinner in Los Gatos with Sherman and his wife, The Athletic reported.

Sherman was released by the Seahawks with a failed physical designation on Friday after seven seasons in Seattle.

NFL Network also noted that Sherman "has a strong affinity for the West Coast", and San Francisco is close to Stanford, where Sherman went to college. While that still leaves room for at least one veteran, it would be odd for Detroit to go for a big-money veteran cornerback when there are much bigger needs elsewhere. He tore his Achilles tendon in November. And Schefter says it's possible that Sherman, who grew up in California, will stay in the area after his visit.

Sherman was part of five Seahawks playoff teams, appeared in two Super Bowls, and helped Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII.

Shaquill Griffin will return as the starter at right cornerback and the team is expected to tender restricted free agent Justin Coleman to return as the nickel corner. Prior to the injury, the 5-time Pro Bowler had never missed a game. Also, no player who's been targeted 300-plus times over that span has allowed a lower completion percentage (47.4) or passer rating (50.9).
