West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday telephoned her Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao to extend her support to his plan to cobble up a third front as an alternative to both the BJP and the Congress.

The police teams were deployed near the State BJP office and the residences of Hyderabad BJP president N Ramchander Rao, party floor leader in Assembly G Kishan Reddy, legislators NVSS Prabhakar and Raja Singh in the wee hours of the day. "Tell me one initiative or one scheme or one act of the central government that he opposed in the last four years", he said. KCR said, "Former Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren also called, telling me that he is standing behind me".

Khairtabad legislator C Ramchandra Reddy and around 200 party workers were taken into preventive custody by police in the wake of call give by BJP against Mr. Rao's "disparaging" words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently.

Mamata agreed with Rao's opinion that there is a necessity for qualitative change in the country's politics. He said, "There is need for qualitative change in the national politics. There is a serious need". People are vexed now. "I am trying to "bring change" in politics and I don't mind to be a part of the change", KCR said. No qualitative change is seen by people even after 70 years of democracy.

He said, "People are looking for change". "After Congress we voted for BJP, what happened in these 4 yrs?"

"The idea of a third front is illusionary and elusive", Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Of the 543 Lok Sabha seats, there are 255 seats in 14 states where it is a fight between the BJP and Congress (in Kerala the fight is between LDF and the UDF led by the Congress). Discussions are going on. KCR will meet retired All India Services officers, retired Defence personnel, national level leaders from agriculture, irrigation, eminent economists, legal luminaries and people from other sections. He is my good friend. "But if they are held, we are ready for it", he said.

Apart from garnering support, the TRS supremo is also planning to hold a series of meetings across the country with various organisations, associations and individuals.
