The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of central Indiana.
The weather service predicts a slight chance of rain and snow after 11 a.m. Sunday.
The National Weather Service forecast does state the precipitation will taper off on Sunday afternoon.
As for freezing rain (ice), a few hundredths of an inch is possible, especially over central and southern sections of the CBS4 viewing area.
"Make no mistake about it: This is a heavy snow, heavier than we have seen in a number of winters", Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told the Weather Channel on Thursday. The highest snow totals are expected along and north of I-70. Light freezing rain overnight to midday Sunday. At 5 inches, Fort Wayne has half the snow depth of Angola.
Friday will see another cold day with temperatures hovering around the freezing point throughout the day. New ice accumulation of less than a 0.1 of an inch possible. Chance of precipitation is 40%. The heavy snow is forecast to move into upstate NY and New England by early Saturday. During the rest of the night, the snow will begin to move northward.
This little bird seemed to enjoy the light snow and sleet that fell in Warren County on Wednesday, Feb. 7. Wind chills in the single digits are expected at times this weekend, the weather service said. The high will be near 31 with a north northwest wind of 5 to 7 miles per hour becoming west in the afternoon.
Sunday will offer more sunshine and warmer temperatures, as highs jump back into the lower 40s.
