Senior Bowl: Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield day one review

At 6-2, 207 pounds, he's a yoked-up hammer (310 career tackles) who has flashed ball skills but will need to show he can survive in space to appeal to clubs that covet interchangeable safeties.

And quarterback-needy teams like the Jets will be keeping their eyes on guys like Luke Falk, Josh Allen, and Baker Mayfield. In that order, by the way.

His big goal for the week, he said: "Prove that I can belong". This year, Vance Joseph of the Denver Broncos will be the head coach of the North squad while Bill O'Brien of the Houston Texans will lead the South squad. Allen's pass exploded out of his hand. The cornerback had no chance. It's definitely different, kind of hard to process the speed of different receivers you've never thrown to before.

MOBILE, Ala. - Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield arrived at the Senior Bowl Tuesday with the desire to show "what I'm all about" in the week's practices, but the Heisman Trophy victor wasn't prepared to say if he would play in Saturday's all-star game. As he begins the NFL Draft process this week by meeting teams at the Senior Bowl practices, he must convince them he's not somebody else. And I'm a guy that likes to bring a hit along with me.

The Broncos, of course, are a quarterback-needy team - and they draft fifth overall this year, one spot ahead of the Jets. But he'll likely still at least be in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick, and Dorsey recently told Peter King of Monday Morning Quarterback that he likes him. "I know I have a lot of flaws as a quarterback". His biggest flaw his accuracy.

"I'm passionate", Reaves said.

Some of that was because of the lack of talent around him and issues with dropped passes.

Mayfield arriving Tuesday afternoon forced him to miss his much-anticipated weigh in. There's always the constant battle with trying to ideal your game. "So going out there and making sure my stride's right and my sequencing is all in pattern and delivering a good, catchable ball". He and Darnold are housemates this offseason, working with quarterbacks coach Jordan Palmer. "It's really cool that he went to one of my games".

The weight of players will only become a topic of conversation if there's a big variance one way or another.

Baker looked small out there. Unfortunately, Tuesday's practice was not as kind to Iowa State's Allen Lazard, who possesses an imposing frame for a split end at 6-foot-4, 227-pounds but he dropped a couple of passes that left scouts in the stands grumbling. This is why having good arm length is important.

Austin Corbett's goal at this week's Senior Bowl is all about earning respect, and not just for himself.

Talk about hitting the ground running.

"Mom not doing too great so family first, always".

Mayfield this week will have a chance to impress coaches and scouts from around the National Football League, and he's glad to take a brief break from combine training to get back on the field. She's getting better. She's got a special appointment Thursday.

Don't count him out yet, Broncos fans. When a team goes from Super Bowl to Senior Bowl in two short years, it needs a change.

"Everybody wants to portray the bad boy, the Johnny Manziel stuff", Mayfield, the 2017 Heisman Trophy victor, said, referencing the 2012 victor from Texas A&M. There's no doubt about that. Emotional player and will do anything it takes to win.
