The University of Arkansas will hire SMU's Chad Morris to be its next head football coach, according to KTHV in Little Rock.

Morris is 14-22 in three seasons at SMU but posted a 7-5 record this season and earned a berth in the Frisco Bowl against Louisiana Tech. The former Wisconsin head coach was signed through the 2020 season and will be paid an $11.8 million buyout.

"The future is tremendously bright at the University of Arkansas with the addition of Chad Morris", Yurachek said in a statement. He was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for Clemson from 2011-2014.

It has been a relatively long search over the past 12 days with the pursuit of Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn before the search turned firmly on Morris.

Morris brings a wide-open up-tempo spread offense the likes of which Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium has never seen from the home team. Morris addresses Arkansas media Thursday for the first time. "I am pleased that Hunter Yurachek had the opportunity to be involved in the final decision and offer and we can not wait to have Chad leading our program". Before coaching with the Tigers, he was the assistant head coach for Tulsa, but where he really made his name was in the Texas high school football ranks.

SMU went 1-11 the year before Morris was hired.

Crowe, who had gone 5-15 at Livingston (now West Alabama), had a 9-15 record at Arkansas, including a loss to The Citadel in the 1992 season opener, the Razorbacks' first game as a member of the Southeastern Conference.
