Texas DPS Trooper Shot, Killed Near Fairfield

The trooper died in his vehicle after the suspect fired multiple times with a rifle, the state's department of public safety said.

Waller County is located northwest of Houston.

When deputies arrived to investigate, someone began shooting at them, authorities said.

The police dog responsible for finding the suspect in the fatal Thanksgiving Day shooting of a Texas state trooper is being honored in social media posts across the state.


It was reported that last month, a Dabrett Montreal Black of Lindale was indicted by a Smith County Grand Jury on two felony charges stemming from a chase involving Smith County deputies in July.

According to the Hays County Sheriff's Office, authorities were informed via 9-1-1 that a man with a gun was breaking into an antique store at approximately 3:45 a.m.

Texas DPS, joined by officers from multiple other agencies, escorted Allen's body to the Dallas County Medical Examiners Office late Thursday night. He faced charges of first-degree felony, aggravated assault against a public servant and evading arrest, a third-degree felony.

Lonny Haschel, a public information officer with the Texas Highway Patrol, says,"It takes time for the Texas Rangers, the investigators to come in and analyze every bit of physical evidence at the scene".


Officials in Navarro County say a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper was shot and killed Thursday afternoon in east-central Texas.

Allen died at the scene, DPS officials said, adding that he had been with the department since 2002.

"Sad on Thanksgiving to lose one of our state troopers in the line of duty". It was not clear from the statement who opened fire. His injuries are not considered life-threatening, officials said.
