That means iTunes no longer contains any options for syncing apps or ringtones to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

On the Mac, users will have to open the App Store from the Applications folder or from the App Dock.

According to the Apple support page, the change is coming because "the new iTunes focuses on music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, and audiobooks".

The change is now effecting only a small amount of users who manage their apps, however it may also come as a welcome change for users who have been frustrated with iTunes tendency to download iOS apps in the background. And a lighter iTunes desktop app could make it easier for Apple to bring it in the Windows Store, as announced. The software build was earlier leaked when an Apple employee emailed the public download URLs of iOS 11 to 9to5Mac and MacRumors. Next, users will have to click on the Update button on the top of the window. Once it finishes, there will be no need to restart the Mac computer and users can start using iTunes 12.7 immediately.

When you launch iTunes 12.7 you'll see a disclaimer about the changes.

Downloading and installing iTunes 12.7 should only take a few minutes, but this will depend on the user's internet speed.

As expected, one of the highlights in Apple's September 12 event was the unveiling of iOS 11's final version as well as the announcement of when it goes live. You can also look forward to the new Files app, customizable Control Center, Voice translation, new app switcher, improved Live Photos and Portrait Mode, and slight tweaks to the UI design.

Chief among iOS 11's features is a much-needed update to Siri. It also adds support for iOS 11 device syncing.

OS 11 will download onto your device, and once it's ready, you can start the install process. By eliminating the ability to buy apps, iTunes has now reverted to being exclusively a media player.
